BRICK REPLACEMENT


1. All bricks spalled or decayed beyond a depth of 3/8" or more will be cut out to their full depth.

2. Brick or mortar joints will be cut by using approved masonry blades designed for the task, to ensure no damage to surrounding brick units.

3. Once preparatory work has been completed, new brick units will be laid true and plumb with the surrounding units on a full bed of mortar.

4. All work will be performed in a systematic fashion so as to maintain the structural stability of the wall (or remaining units).

5. Replacement units shall be approved by the owner or representative prior to their installation and commencement of work.

6. Where bricks have been removed, the ties, anchors and shelf angles will be inspected and their condition reported to the owner or representative before replacement of new units.

7. If no faults are found, the above will be used to secure the new work or augmented as may be required to satisfy local building codes.

8. Mortar joints will be struck to match the existing joint profile on the existing masonry as closely as possible.
