CAULKING (NEW CONSTRUCTION) 1. Have manufacturer's representative conduct adhesion tests to substrate that is to be caulked and make recommendation for same. Based on tests conducted, have manufacturers chosen to issue warranty literature for the project along with stated preparatory actions required (if different than the following). 2. Install new polyethylene backer-rod into all voids or control joints to allow for two-sided adhesion of new caulking material. 3. Clean surfaces of joint sides with a recommended solvent (if required), designed for compatibility with the sealant/caulk. 4. Where recommended, apply primer to joint sides in conformance with manufacturer's instructions for same. 5. Apply new caulking using a hand-held caulking gun to ensure a neat and uniform bead. 6. The surface of the bead will then be tooled to a smooth finish and sure bond between the two sides of the joint. |
