CONCRETE REPAIR

1. Sound out with the use of a ballpeen hammer or chain and locate all delaminated/spalled concrete. All defective concrete areas shall be removed and cut back to the full depth of deterioration to assure a solid foundation on which to rebuild. Wherever reinforcement bar (rebar) exists, the concrete shall be cut back to permit one inch of concrete/repair material to encircle the bars.

2. The exposed areas of rebar shall be ground using abrasive wheels designed for this purpose, so as to remove rust, scaling or other foreign materials.

3. All dust and loose particles shall be removed from the resulting work and the surfaces prepared in accordance to ensure a sure bond and inhibition of further corrosive action of rebar embedment. A concrete slurry mix shall be applied to the concrete and an epoxy or zinc coating applied to the rebar, whichever is deemed more beneficial.

4. The concrete or repair material shall be placed in the repair areas according to good practices and manufacturer guidelines for the product used. The concrete design mix shall be in accordance with the specifications for the surrounding concrete. All levels and planes of surrounding surfaces shall be used to trowel and finish the repair areas to the existing lines and levels.

Note: All edges of the repair areas shall be chiselled to no less than one-half inch on the perimeters of the repair areas, so as to allow a straight, dense termination of the repair, without feathering of material.
