PAVING (OVERLAY)

1. Unless otherwise and stated under the Scope of Work, all failed asphalt surfaces shall be cut out so these depressions will not transfer to the new surface. These locations shall then be filled with new asphalt and compacted to the existing surface.

2. Apply a bituminous tack coat to the surfaces of existing asphalt to be overlayed and ensure surface is well covered.

3. Install a minimum of 1½ inch overlay of HL3 or HL3A hot asphalt and grade to adjacent asphalt. Asphalt type to be decided by Owner or Owner's Representative.

4. Where overlay is not done to the complete surface of the existing asphalt, terminate asphalt in a clean line of division between new and old surfaces.

Note: As the cause of asphalt failure may be due to poor soil conditions requiring replacement prior to new asphalt, these costs have not been accounted in pricing. Additional work is charged for as a separate service – unless covered under the Scope of Work and “Area” section of the quotation.
