Siding

The choice of siding is an important one and today there are numerous methods of siding or cladding the exterior. Brick, stone, wood, aluminum, vinyl, steel, EIFS (extruded insulating foam system) are all used. In any of them, the use of insulation on the interior wall must be a consideration, in addition to proper air and vapor barriers to retard or stop air and water infiltration from entering or condensation to build up within the wall.

Siding is not only a personal choice but must also be considered with regard to future energy costs and maintenance. The three little pigs story notwithstanding, all the choices can effectively do the job but you get what you pay for and the energy considerations should form part of that decision.

Painting

painted-houseIn addition to looking attractive, paint is another method of preserving and protecting the surfaces they are applied to. The correct or proper paint or coating type is also a very important decision. When one considers the costs of replacing rotted wood trim, windows, siding or exposed concrete etc., painting is an effective method of reducing the costs of running a home.

It is not just a good idea - these coatings protect them from damage. Like caulking, paint has a life span. When it has reached or surpassed that expectation, one can expect that damage to those areaʼs will begin to occur shortly. There are numerous paints and coating systems, all designed for specific applications, so deciding which product to use is an important one. The point here though, is that high energy costs also include potential repair costs due to inadequate maintenance. Storm Seal personnel are not only the Caulking Experts, we know what can go wrong - before it does.
