TUCKPOINTING 1. All joints deteriorated beyond one-quarter inch shall be cut out to a minimum depth of one-half inch or until solid mortar is reached. 2. Cutting shall be executed by the use of grinding wheels or mechanical chisels, designed for this purpose and in such a manner so as not to chip, spall or disturb the surrounding masonry units or jointing. 3. The joints shall then be flushed clean with water and wetted to assure a good bond of the new mortar mix. All dust and loose particles shall be cleaned prior to the installation of new material. 4. All joints will be struck to match the existing profile as closely as possible and tinted to off-set the new from old masonry material, i.e. cause to blend in with existing colour. 5. In the course of carrying out the tuckpointing, inspection for any damage to the brick units shall be carried out and reported to the owner or his representative for his action. |
